Programme Overview
The NATO Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Programme has launched a new call for research proposals. This year, it prioritizes research addressing threats from the Russian Federation, as well as key areas of strategic importance for Ukraine.
This programme supports international, applied research initiatives and scientific events that contribute directly to security and stability. Each project must bring together institutions from both NATO member states and NATO partner countries. Since Ukraine is a NATO partner, Ukrainian institutions are fully eligible to participate. Applications must be submitted in English via the official portal.
Who Can Apply for Science for Peace and Security
Only non-profit institutions may apply, including universities, public research institutes, and state agencies. Each proposal must come from a consortium that includes:
– at least one organization from a NATO member country
– at least one from a NATO partner country, such as Ukraine
Priority Areas for 2025
– Countering threats originating from the Russian Federation
– Energy security
– Cybersecurity
– Emerging technologies
– Hybrid threat mitigation
Funding Formats
– Multi-Year Projects (24–36 months):
– These projects must demonstrate concrete results such as prototypes, technological solutions, or validated data
– Funding ranges from €25,000 to €400,000
– Scientific Events:
– Includes seminars, trainings, and advanced study institutes
– Funding ranges from €30,000 to €60,000
