The Ukrainian Media and Society Foundation (UMSF) has announced a grant call aimed at strengthening political journalism and supporting the sustainable development of independent media in Ukraine. The programme focuses on projects that combine high-quality political content with long-term media viability.
In particular, the call responds to the growing need for reliable political reporting during wartime and in the context of Ukraine’s future recovery. Therefore, supported projects should not only inform audiences, but also contribute to a resilient democratic information environment.
Programme focus
The grant supports initiatives that integrate content production or distribution with organisational and financial sustainability of media outlets. Moreover, projects are expected to address key political challenges facing Ukraine today.
Eligible projects should include one or more of the following components:
- Coverage of political issues related to Ukraine’s EU integration, social cohesion, post-war recovery, economic development, and future democratic elections.
- Analysis and explanation of political processes in Ukraine within a broader international and global context for diverse audiences.
- Promotion of political dialogue and contribution to a healthy democratic information ecosystem during a critical historical period.
- Provision and analysis of information about key political actors, risks, and concrete challenges on the political scene during the war and in the post-war environment.
- Development of innovative and sustainable media business models, including advertising strategies, subscription or membership schemes, paid access, additional services, or other revenue-generating activities.
Who can apply for UMSF Call
The call is open to Ukrainian media companies and non-governmental organisations operating in the media sector. Importantly, applicants must demonstrate both editorial capacity and a clear plan for organisational sustainability.

The maximum grant amount available under this call is 600,000 UAH per project. Meanwhile, applicants should carefully plan activities and budgets to match the programme’s objectives.
