U.S. Embassy Fund for Cultural Preservation Program: Call for Applications for 2025
U.S. Embassy Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) is one of the most important U.S. government initiatives aimed at preserving historic, cultural, and architectural landmarks worldwide. The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv has announced the start of the application process for the 2025 AFCP program.
Program Goal
AFCP promotes the protection of:
- Historic buildings and monuments
- Archaeological sites
- Museum collections
- Traditional cultural practices, including languages and crafts of indigenous peoples
The program also highlights the United States’ deep respect for Ukrainian cultural heritage and supports strengthening international cooperation in the field of cultural preservation.
Key Information about the AFCP Grant Program of U.S. Embassy Fund
- Grant Amount: $25,000 to $500,000 per project
- Project Duration: 12 to 60 months
- Application Deadline: Wednesday, January 15, 2025

How to Apply
Proposals must follow the specified format:
1) Basic Project Information:
Name of the applicant
Project title
Location
Duration and total estimated cost
2) Project Summary (up to 3000 characters):
Actions, interim results, and expected outcomes
3) Documentation:
Five (5) high-quality digital images (JPEG or PNG) or audiovisual files illustrating the condition of the object or tradition
If the application progresses to the second round of the competition, the U.S. Embassy will request a detailed project proposal.
Who Can Apply?
Only the following types of organizations are eligible:
- Ukrainian higher education institutions
- Non-governmental organizations (NGOs)
- Ukrainian government institutions
- International NGOs
- U.S. non-profit organizations
Note: All organizations must be registered on SAM.gov and have a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI).
Funding Priorities of U.S. Embassy Fund
In 2025, priority will be given to projects that support:
- U.S. policy as outlined in the National Security Strategy
- Cultural heritage recovery after disasters
- Resilience to natural disasters or conflicts in regions
- Public initiatives relevant to cultural diplomacy
Eligible Project Areas
The AFCP program funds a wide range of projects, including:
- Anastylosis: restoring objects using their original parts
- Conservation: eliminating damage or reducing risks to an object
- Restoration: replacing or recreating elements to restore the original appearance
- Documentation: recording significant features of an object or tradition
- Preventive conservation: minimizing the impact of negative factors on an object or monument
Restrictions
The program does not fund:
- Acquisition or preservation of privately owned objects
- Excavations or research for research purposes
- Construction of new buildings or creation of new works of art
- Digitization of objects without a clear link to preservation or diplomacy
