Purpose of the Competition

The “Circulation of European Literary Works” Competition 2025 aims to promote the international circulation and diversity of European literary works. Its goals include the following:

  • Encouraging reading practices;
  • Supporting linguistic diversity across Europe;
  • Enhancing the professional development of literary translators;
  • Boosting competition in Europe’s book sector.

  • Translating, publishing, distributing, and promoting at least five literary works.

The organizers plan to fund 40 projects with a total budget of €5 million. Both individual organizations and consortia are welcome to apply.

Key Priorities

The competition places special emphasis on supporting literary translators. To achieve this, organizers recommend:

  • Providing translators with fair pay, recognition, and visibility by including their names on book covers and in publication credits;
  • Partnering only with professional literary translators registered in the “Creative Europe” database.

Special Conditions for Ukraine

In light of the EU’s support for Ukraine, the competition will fund projects that:

  • Distribute Ukrainian literary works to refugees and displaced persons;
  • Publish books in Ukrainian, including original works that do not require translation.

Project Principles

All projects must adhere to the following principles:

  • Inclusivity;
  • Gender equality;
  • Environmental sustainability;
  • Cultural diversity.
