The European Union’s “Creative Europe” programme has announced a new call for proposals titled “Support for the Circulation of European Literature.” The initiative aims to promote translation, publishing, and distribution of European literary works while strengthening linguistic and cultural diversity across the continent.
Programme Objective
The main goal of the call is to enhance the international circulation and accessibility of European fiction and to reach new audiences, especially young readers. The programme also supports translators, publishers, and cultural organisations that help foster intercultural understanding through literature.
Key Priorities
The programme provides funding for projects that include:
– translation of literary works (with preference for less commonly spoken languages) and publication in print, digital, or audio formats;
– promotion and distribution of books to new audiences, particularly young readers;
– partnerships within the book sector — bookstores, libraries, literary festivals, and translation networks;
– fair remuneration for authors and translators and support for a sustainable publishing industry.
An additional priority is ensuring access to Ukrainian-language books for refugees and displaced persons living in EU countries.
Eligibility
The call is open to publishing sector organisations based in Creative Europe participating countries. Applicants may apply as individual organisations or as part of a consortium with at least two partners. Applicants must demonstrate professional experience in translation, publishing, or literary promotion.
Eligible Activities
The call supports projects involving previously published literary works such as novels, short stories, plays, poetry, graphic novels, comics, and children’s or young adult literature. Funding is also available for new translations if their cultural or educational value is clearly justified.
Funding
Grants cover up to 60% of total project costs. The estimated funding amount ranges from €100,000 to €300,000. The programme encourages collaboration among publishers, translators, and distributors to strengthen the European literary ecosystem.
How to Apply
Applications must be submitted via the Funding & Tenders Opportunities Portal of the European Commission. Applicants are strongly advised to read the call guidelines carefully before applying. Proposals must be submitted in English.
Deadline: 29 January 2026, 17:00 (CET). Full details and documentation are available at ec.europa.eu.
