APS International Research Travel Award for Ukraine: support for international research mobility

APS International Research Travel Award for Ukraine: support for international research mobility

The APS International Research Travel Award for Ukraine is an initiative of the American Physical Society (APS). It supports Ukrainian physicists whose research has suffered because of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The programme offers targeted financial assistance for international research travel and helps researchers stay connected to the global scientific community.

At the same time, the award strengthens scientific cooperation and helps researchers continue their work without interruption. As a result, APS aims to reduce the long-term negative impact of the war on Ukrainian science and individual research careers.

Purpose of the award

The main goal of the International Research Travel Award is to support short-term research visits abroad. Through these visits, Ukrainian physicists can work in safe environments and continue their research activities. In addition, the programme promotes knowledge exchange, access to modern infrastructure, and stronger international research networks.

Who can apply

The award is open to physicists who are Ukrainian citizens or who worked in Ukraine before the full-scale invasion. Applicants must show that the war has significantly affected their research. Moreover, they must hold an affiliation with a recognised academic or research institution and secure confirmation from a host institution outside Ukraine.

Eligible activities

The programme supports international research travel in physics and related fields. Eligible activities include collaborative research visits, access to laboratories or facilities, and participation in joint research projects. In particular, the award focuses on activities that require in-person scientific cooperation.

Funding

The APS International Research Travel Award covers essential travel-related costs. These may include transportation, accommodation, and daily subsistence expenses. However, the final amount depends on the destination, duration of the visit, and available funding.

Application process

Applicants submit their applications online through the APS system. The application includes a description of the planned research visit and confirmation from the host institution. Additionally, applicants provide information about their academic background and current circumstances. Official information about the APS International Research Travel Award for Ukraine, including eligibility rules and application guidelines, is available on the American Physical Society website:
