Grant competition for CSOs: advocacy support to strengthen the role and impact of civil society

The grant competition “Advocacy Support to Strengthen the Role and Impact of Civil Society” aims to strengthen the advocacy capacity of civil society organisations (CSOs) in Ukraine. It supports initiatives that help CSOs influence decision-making, shape policies and reinforce democratic institutions through advocacy campaigns at local and national levels.

The competition includes two lots with distinct priorities and objectives. Applicants may submit several project proposals; however, the organisers will support only one application per organisation.

Lot 1. Improving the legal environment for civil society

Lot 1 supports projects that improve the legal environment for CSO work and strengthen the sustainable functioning of civic initiatives, volunteer groups and other civil society actors.

In particular, priorities include:

  • monitoring and analysing current legislation and drafting recommendations for change;
  • creating mechanisms that enable CSOs to participate in decision-making at national and local levels;
  • advocating for systemic change together with public authorities, citizens and CSOs;
  • representing the interests of Ukrainian civil society internationally.

When a project involves cooperation with members of parliament or public authorities, applicants must attach a letter of support from the relevant authority or MP.

Lot 2. Institutional support for advocacy-oriented CSOs

Lot 2 strengthens the sustainability of CSOs that advance democratic values through advocacy, contribute to recovery and reform processes, protect human rights and work in socially important areas.

Expected results

Supported projects should increase civil society participation in policy-making and make decision-making processes more transparent. Moreover, projects should strengthen democratic institutions and deepen cooperation between CSOs and other stakeholders.

Who can participate

Registered CSOs in Ukraine with experience in advocacy or socially significant initiatives can apply. In addition, applicants must show they can implement the project within the required timeframe.

How to apply

The ISAR “Yednannia” platform provides application procedures and detailed participation requirements. After submission, the organisers will evaluate proposals against the set criteria and, where relevant, verify cooperation arrangements with public authorities involved in the project.
